On July 1, 2019 Tennessee passed a bill that grants violent registered sex offenders overnight unsupervised visitations with their children. Just like California we stand against this bill.  (2) No person shall be granted physical or legal custody of, or unsupervised visitation with, a child who is less than 14 years of age if the person is required to be registered as a sex offender under Section 290 of the Penal Code if the victim was a minor, or if the person has been convicted under Section 273a, 273d, or 647.6.

The Bill in Tennessee granted by Representative Dogget, Griffey, Littleton, Smith, Helton, Ogles, Hardaway, and Hazelwood is states: "the offender may reside, conduct an overnight visit, or be alone with a minor".

In Memphis, Tennessee starting from January 2020-December 17,2020 there has been 1,519 total child abuse cases. Out of 1,519, 186 of these cases were sexual abuse cases while 1,034 of them were filed memos to be investigated. 164 of these cases were reported as child physical abuse. Why do Tennesseans need to expand this count even more by putting them in the hands of a violent convicted sex offender. Tennessee Criminal Justice system is failing our children.

Changes we would like to see made:

1. Delete (C) (ii)-Children may never come forth with clear and convincing evidence due to fear, coercion, and other frightening reasons

2. Remove unsupervised overnight visitations for a parent who has been convicted of a sexual or violent sexual offense crime. No convicted offender should be left alone with a child nor be granted custody. Offenders molest their own children as it is a mental illness.

3. Convicted Sexual offenders should not be allowed on school, daycare, and playground premises. Offenders whom have overnight visitations are also allowed to be around other children while taking their children to school, daycares, playgrounds, school activities etc.

4. Convicted violent sex offenders shall have strict limitations to all children including their own.
