Eliminate Nathan Bedford Forrest Day in Tennessee

Eliminate Nathan Bedford Forrest Day in Tennessee
The Issue
"Nathan Bedford Forrest Day" is a celebration of one of the most notorious and disgusting figures in American history. He owned slaves, fought to keep slaves in the south, and slaughtered many black people at Fort Pillow (after they had surrendered). It is vile that a celebration of this man still officially and unofficially exists in the state of Tennessee. It is harmful to the black psyche and to the education of future Tennesseans. We should NEVER honor those in our past who have committed such heinous acts. I implore the Tennessee General Assembly, Governor Bill Lee, and anyone else who may have the power to eliminate this day, to do so immediately. The fact that it has taken this long, and that it continues to be tabled in TGA sessions is appalling. Citizens of Tennessee will remember this on election day. Be a part of the EASIEST step in combating racism in our state and country.
