Tell your state legislators that you support the Commercial Dog Breeders Registration Act!
The Issue
Puppy mills contribute to pet overpopulation and cause countless dogs lifetimes of suffering in squalid wire cages.
A new bill is under consideration in Tennessee to help stop these cruel puppy mills. The Commercial Dog Breeders Registration Act, (HB 2303/SB 2175) creates provisions in consumer protection laws to stop breeders from altering a dog's health certificate, selling dogs without a license or misrepresenting the condition of a dog for sale. It will also create routine inspections and state oversight, requiring mass breeding kennels to operate like any other legitimate business in TN.
The Commercial Dog Breeders Registration Act is pending in the state legislature this session, but is currently stalled. We face strong opposition from organizations like the American Kennel Club, (AKC) whose lobbyists are working hard to defeat this bill. There is also resistance from some legislators, one of whom called this bill "deplorable" and "dangerous", and branded those of us who support protecting dogs in Tennessee as "radical animal activists." We need to let our legislators know that we support this commonsense bill, and ask them to vote yes on the Commercial Dog Breeders Registration Act!
Please take just a minute to help dogs living in abusive puppy mills in Tennessee by signing this petition. Thank you!
