Keep Scott Street Open

Keep Scott Street Open

The Issue

Residents of Binghampton and other Memphis stakeholders are petitioning the City of Memphis and the Tennessee Department of Transportation to stop the proposed closure of the Scott Street Bridge. We believe that the negative effects of closing the bridge far outweigh any positive outcomes.

The closure of Scott Street bridge will:

·  Cut off residents from pedestrian usage of Poplar Ave, effectively ending easy access to important daily activities for Binghampton residents;

·  Limit access to businesses and residences along Scott Street;

·  Create detrimental congestion on Tillman and Mimosa, streets which have already been highly affected by the recently added bike lanes.

This proposed closure goes against our neighborhood’s desire to remain accessible and to ensure connectivity. The proposal to close the bridge at Scott Street and Poplar Ave affects the Binghampton neighborhood overwhelmingly more than any other surrounding neighborhoods.
