Declare Devenscrest Apartment as affordable, stop gentrification.

The Issue

On Wednesday July 14th, 2021 by the new owners Brady and Sullivan Corporation 66 residents at Devenscrest Apartments received an eviction noticed. The notices stated that these 66 residents had 60 days to vacate the property or face legal action. Devenscrest Apartments houses approximately 122 residents who are middle-class to low income. The Brady and Sullivan Corporation from New Hampshire is forcing people to leave their homes. Some people have lived in the Devenscrest Community for approximately 60 plus years. The new owners state the reason for the eviction is to ‘make the interior look more modern, but the residents who received the noticed are not allow to go back to their homes after the new owners remodel. Due, to the rental prices going up and income qualification. The new owners are raising the rent to $1,800 to $2,000 a month. There is also an income requirement of $72,000-$100,000 for you to qualify to rent one of these apartments. Sadly, Devenscrest Apartments has been known in the town of Ayer as affordable housing. In addition, Devencrest houses significant amount of students who attend Ayer/Shirley Schools, and majority or the residents are on a fix income, and live paycheck to paycheck.

With the rental market being extremely high. The residents of Devenscrest is asking for justices. There is way too many corporations purchasing property in poor communities and forcing the poor people, hard working, and middle class people to move out of their homes. This is gentrification!

PLEASE SUPPORT THE DEVENSCREST RESIDENTS TO RECEIVE JUSTICES, and that Governor Baker and the Ayer Town join us with declaring these apartments as affordable housing in the town of Ayer MA! LET STAND TOGETHER AS THE PEOPLE UNTIY AS ONE COMMUNITY!
