The Ontario Government is once again planning on environmental deregulation, this time with Conservation Authorities. For many of us in Niagara we have seen what happens when bad politicians had too much influence in the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority. It cost the tax payers a lot of money and resulted in the Auditor General doing an investigation. Yet this is the direction the Ontario Government wants to head.
The NPCA manages the impact of human activities, urban growth, and rural activities on the Niagara Peninsula watershed with programs and services that help keep people and their property safe from flooding and erosion, while retaining the safety of our drinking water.
I can assure you that the current Board of NPCA and the CAO are very much improved over the previous regime. Please help them by taking part in the survey below. DEADLINE: March 13, 2020

Issues that were important to me are CA's getting enough funding to monitor our watershed; retaining the safety of our drinking water; mitigation for climate change; and composition of Boards should be more conservation experts than politicians.
Here is a list of support items to ensure the critical role of conservation authorities from Ontario Nature :
*land use planning and permitting to protect biodiversity and enhance climate resilience;
*monitoring programs and research that underpin flood mitigation, source water protection, climate action, biodiversity conservation and ecological restoration;
*delivering community projects in partnership with municipalities and local organizations; and
*delivering watershed-scale approaches to monitoring, decision-making, stewardship, outreach and education.
