Hello everyone
We are looking forward to hearing what Richard Feltoe, re-enactor and author of 7 books about the War of 1812, has to say on March 21st in Ridgeway at 2 p.m. Please order your tickets now so you don't miss this. He is bringing uniforms and other materials related to the War of 1812-1815 and also copies of his books for sale after the presentation. The Siege of Fort Erie was a critical battle and many lives were lost. Why doesn't this battle get more recognition? Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. For tickets please call Sandi at 905-871-9926 or email forteriebattle@gmail.com .
As we approach the Hearing on May 25th we will be providing information about some of the issues involved. One key piece of information is the proposed Erie Beach Community Plan from 2009/2010. This plan was paid for by the previous developer and compiled in conjunction with the Town and multiple experts. The last update for this plan was presented to Council in June 2010 and can be found at this link https://www.forterie.ca/WebSite/minutes.nsf/0/78B8389DCA5B12AA852577450061D695/%24File/Council-in-Committee%20-%2014%20Jun%202010%20-%20Pdf.pdf beginning on page 202. As you can see this is dramatically different from the current proposal and acknowledges that the property is "breeding habitat for the provincially and nationally significant Fowler's Toad and Red-headed Woodpecker". Surprisingly Fowler's Toad is absent from the current Environmental Impact Study. If you look at the maps you will see that the plan incorporates "developmental constraints areas, recommended buffers, and identified a linkage area to be retained to encourage movement of wildlife between habitats near the shoreline and the significant wetland areas north of Dominion Road." The file is rather large so if you would like a copy of this report as well as a slide show showing the list of experts involved can be obtained by emailing cvferie@gmail.com .
