Hello everyone

I hope you are all safe and well. The health and well-being of the community is one reason Community Voices of Fort Erie was created, so we have decided to postpone the talk by Richard Feltoe, re-enactor and author of 7 books about the War of 1812. For anyone who has already pre-paid for tickets, your ticket will be good for this talk when it is scheduled. If you are unable to attend your money will be refunded. This talk will be rescheduled once social gatherings are safe.

In the meantime here is a map within a full-text book and a few quotes that you might find interesting.

The Pictorial Field-book of the War of 1812 by Benson J. Lossing includes a map on page 839 which shows Towson's battery also known as Snake Hill. https://archive.org/details/fieldbookswar181200lossrich/page/838/mode/2up

* From the Siege of Fort Erie by Lieut.-Colonel Ernest Cruickshank " About 300 yards in front of Snake Hill a strong-out-lying picquet, commanded by Lieut. Belknap of the 23rd United States Infantry, was posted in an oak grove, which discovered and attempted to check their advance by a sharp fire of musketry." He noted about the British forces "Their loss was severe."

* A Quote from Dr. Ronald Williamson head of a four-member team uncovering the remains of American soldiers found on Lakeshore Road, in a newspaper article from 1987 "We know that hundreds died in the fighting of September 1814." "There's the potential to find many more bodies."

* From a US Soldier reporting in a US newspaper on September 9, 1814. "He left at Schenectady three officers from Erie, who state that on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning, 80 of the enemy's dead were found in a wood near Fort Erie, where they had been collected by the foe, who had been obliged to retreat without being able to bury them."
