Temporary ban on new residential building

Temporary ban on new residential building
The Issue
Existing Hampstead Residents Matter Too!
New development is rampant, especially high density developments. The traffic jams used to be during work and school hours, but now are all the time, making it impossible for many to get to work, doctor appointments, or anywhere safely and on time. Traffic accidents and injuries occur daily, with some having fatal results. Side roads like Country Club Rd and Sloop Point Loop Rd also back up. Hampstead has a reputation, and its no longer quality of life! Its traffic, car accidents, overcrowded schools, and poor land use planning.
Pause on New Development Needed Now!
The completion of the bypass has continued to be delayed and now is expected to be open by 2030, while new large-scale developments continue to be approved every month.
Let the commissioners know that you support a temporary pause on approval of new residential developments until the bypass is completed so traffic improvements can be assessed, as well as the effect of the recent new development on our schools and environment. If you support this, please sign the below petition electronically. It will be presented to the Board of Commissioners at their August meeting.
Petition to the Pender County Board of Commissioners
The citizens of Hampstead respectfully request the Pender County Board of Commission and the Pender County Planning and Zoning Committees put in place a temporary ban on permitting new developments immediately, to remain in place until two years after the bypass is fully in use. This includes approval of new plans or increased density (via zoning changes) until that time.
