LBUSD school district has ultimately decided to continue operating schools, whereas Comptons Schools are temporarily canceled. The air we are inhaling is filled with ashes from the Palisades Fire, which currently has no signs of containment (as of January 9, 2025), and the AQI is currently polluted making it unfit for breathability.  Winds are bringing down ashes from Los Angeles County.  Breathing in ashes can cause negative health risks like Respiratory Irritation, and it potentially also increases the risk of cancer.  Additionally, making it harder for the residents/students of Long Beach who suffer from asthma.  Citizens of Long Beach are warned of hazardous air quality but still choose to operate our schools, LBUSD ignores these locally issued reports being sent to our mobile devices.  LBUSD does NOT care about student safety which has been very apparent in the days following prior.
