Cancel Temple University Classes on Election Day

The Issue

Dear President Richard Englert,

We, the students of Temple University, are requesting that classes be canceled on November 8, 2016 because of election day.

We think every student at Temple should have their voice heard in this historic election but that may not be possible if classes are held. Many students have multiple classes on Tuesday and will not have time to vote in between them. Further, it will be difficult for commuters who are registered to vote where they live to get to the polls when they must also travel to campus.

In order to encourage and facilitate active citizenship on Temple’s campus classes must be canceled on November 8.
