The Issue

Dear Temple City Unified School District,

We are asking that you reconsider the current reopening for in-person learning. The current plan with students arriving at 12:45P.M. - 2:45P.M., for 2 days a week, with no new teaching or new information is a huge detriment to our children! We do not believe this plan is within AB-86 bill's requirement of offering in-person instruction "to the greatest extent possible". This plan is also very inconvenient for working parents, who are already struggling with balancing work from home and helping with distance learning.

Why weren't parents included in the reopening task force? You cannot point to outdated surveys that only gave us 2 options, as examples of including parent opinions. In the latest survey, many parents defaulted to choosing remain distance learning, because they could not make the 12:45-2:45 schedule fit into their work schedules. Is your task force truly representing the Temple City community? With a population of 62% Asians (https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/templecitycitycalifornia did your task force reflect that demographic appropriately?

Our children need a more regular in-person schedule in the A.M. to help them adjust back to normal. It has been over 1 year and our children need this change for their academic and mental health! This is a positive change, a change toward normalcy, a change that tells our children that there is hope for the future. It is time to break the depressing ways of distance learning and get our children back in-person as soon as possible.
