The WV Senate has passed Senate Bill 109 and sent the bill to the House. SB-109 will allow exemptions from smoke-free regulations for hundreds of venues that are already smoke free and have been for a considerable time, exposing workers, patrons and vendors to harmful secondhand tobacco smoke. This dangerous bill is moving quickly and your lawmakers need to hear from you now!

Exposure to secondhand smoke has immediate adverse effects on the cardiovascular system and can cause coronary heart disease and stroke. In fact, nonsmokers who are exposed to secondhand smoke at home or at work increase their risk of developing heart disease by 25 to 30%.

Senate Bill 109 (and similar legislation, HB 2208, which was rejected by the house) is being sought by powerful special interests, most notably the gambling industry, who are attempting to turn back the hands of time in order to squeeze profits through exploitation of dangerous addiction.
