Tell WA Legislators to stand up for the Sound

The Issue

Tell Washington legislators we need their support in funding Puget Sound recovery. There are two budget proposals in the Washington state legislature. But only the House budget proposal prioritizes the health of Puget Sound. Will you let legislators know that you think Puget Sound is a smart investment? Negotiations are happening now, and your voice is needed.

The Washington State House has chosen to invest in smart programs that objectively rate and rank projects with high environmental benefits and create shovel-ready jobs in communities throughout the state. This includes: $63 million to reduce toxic stormwater runoff, $43 million to reduce flood risk and restore habitat in floodplains, and $50 million to protect and restore habitat needed for salmon recovery and to promote clean water and clean air. In the scope of the state budget, this is a small percentage of the whole, but each project pays dividends for our health, economy, and culture.

Unfortunately, the Washington State Senate doesn’t see it that way. They only make about 1/3 of the House’s investment in Puget Sound, leaving these critical programs underfunded in a big way.

Will you email the Washington State Legislature and ask them to makes a real investment in Puget Sound recovery?
