Reliable transportation should not depend on whether someone can transfer out of their wheelchair or whether they happen to live across the river in another major city.

New Jersey residents who use wheelchairs, have mobility limitations, or require additional transportation assistance deserve more accessible transportation choices.

That is why I am launching this petition asking Uber and Lyft to expand wheelchair-accessible transportation services throughout New Jersey.

For many residents, transportation means:

Getting to medical appointments
Getting to work
Going grocery shopping
Attending school or community programs
Visiting family
Participating in everyday life
Maintaining independence
Many specialized transportation services require advance scheduling and may not always provide the flexibility residents need.

We are asking Uber and Lyft to work with the State of New Jersey, appropriate regulators, licensed transportation providers, disability advocates, and residents to determine how safe, app-based wheelchair-accessible transportation can be expanded throughout our state.

We support all appropriate licensing, training, insurance, vehicle, accessibility, and passenger-safety requirements.

This campaign is not about eliminating existing transportation services.

It is about giving New Jersey residents more choices.

Residents with disabilities and mobility needs should have access to the same type of convenient transportation technology available in other major markets.

Our Goal

We are asking:

Uber to expand its wheelchair-accessible transportation services into New Jersey.

Lyft to expand its wheelchair-accessible transportation services into New Jersey.

New Jersey officials and regulators to work with rideshare companies and licensed providers to identify a pathway for safe, accessible transportation expansion.

Transportation is independence.

Transportation is opportunity.

Transportation is healthcare access.

Transportation is community.
