The Issue

At the COP30 climate summit in Brazil, California Governor Gavin Newsom called it what it is: the U.S. is falling behind — fast.

While the world accelerates toward clean energy, President Donald Trump is trying to drag the United States in the opposite direction. His administration has dismissed climate science, pushed fossil fuel expansion, blocked international cooperation, and plans to open new offshore oil drilling near California’s coast.

Meanwhile, other countries — and even U.S. states like California — are racing ahead in renewable energy jobs, electric vehicle production, and green innovation. America should be leading the clean energy revolution. Instead, Trump’s policies threaten to leave us behind, both economically and environmentally.

The stakes couldn’t be higher. Wildfires, droughts, rising sea levels, and record heatwaves are already hitting U.S. communities hard. We don’t need more delay. We need leadership.

But Trump’s message is clear: He’s doubling down on pollution, isolation, and short-term profits — all while China, Europe, and other nations position themselves to dominate the global clean tech economy.

We still have a choice.

We call on Congress, U.S. governors, and international climate leaders to publicly reject Trump’s anti-climate agenda and recommit to urgent action.

That means protecting clean energy jobs, restoring global climate partnerships, and blocking new fossil fuel development — especially offshore drilling that threatens coastal communities.

If Washington won’t lead, states and citizens must. If Trump wants to abandon climate action, it’s up to us to make sure the world knows he doesn’t speak for all of America.
