Tell Trump: Open Area 51 to Public Oversight

The Issue

President Donald Trump has announced that agencies will begin identifying and releasing files related to UFOs and unidentified aerial phenomena.

If transparency is truly the goal, then it must go further.

For decades, Area 51 has been one of the most secretive military sites in the United States. Its classified status has fueled speculation, mistrust, and public suspicion. While national security must always be protected, blanket secrecy without accountability erodes public confidence.

We call on President Donald Trump and the Department of Defense to:

• Declassify and release historical, non-sensitive Area 51 records.
• Allow independent congressional oversight of the facility’s legacy programs.
• Provide a public report clarifying what activities at Area 51 remain classified and why.

Opening Area 51 does not mean compromising active military operations. It means ending unnecessary secrecy, increasing public trust, and drawing a clear line between legitimate national security and outdated classification practices.

Americans deserve transparency from their government.

Open Area 51.
