The Issue

The proposed expansion of the Pine Ridge landfill near School House Road in County is a matter of grave concern for us in the Pine Ridge area of East Brunswick, particularly those with school-going children. This expansion not only threatens environmental stability but also poses significant health risks to the community.

Landfills are notorious for emitting dangerous methane gas and leachate into the environment, which can result in severe health conditions for people living around them. Besides, the expansion of Pine Ridge landfill would only exacerbate the traffic, thereby increasing the risk of accidents and hampering the daily commute of the residents. Such developments near residential areas, particularly those with schools, are in direct conflict with maintaining a safe and healthy environment for learning and living.

In a report from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), chronic exposure to landfill emissions has been linked to respiratory ailments and other health issues. Schools should be places of knowledge and growth, not shadows of landfills that bring potential dangers.

Additionally, local property values are likely to plummet, affecting the financial stability of families who have saved for years to create their homes in what they believed to be a safe neighborhood. Studies indicate property devaluation can range from 5 to 10% for homes located near landfills or similar industrial sites.

We urge the township officials to prioritize the health and well-being of our community over industrial gains. There are viable alternative sites for waste management facilities that do not endanger our children's health or our living conditions.

Please join us in opposing this expansion by signing this petition. Together, we can stand up for the health and safety of our community and preserve the integrity of our neighborhood. Sign now to make a difference. Thank you.
