Right now, the North Carolina State Senate is considering a bill that would make it illegal for local governments to protect the air we breathe and water we drink. If the NC State Senate passes a bill called the Regulatory Reform Act, or S612, local governments would not be allowed to make their own environmental regulations. That means that plants and manufacturing facilities could avoid landfill requirements and get rid of harmful waste without anyone monitoring to make sure it wasn’t seeping into North Carolina’s air or waterways.
