Aggiornamento sulla petizioneTell the School District of Philadelphia: We Want #PoliceFreeSchools!A timely ask for #PoliceFreeSchools supporters

Since early June, PSU students have led the local fight for the #PoliceFreeSchools movement. We call for the abolition of police officers and divestment of the $31 million currently spent on school police officers and to reinvest in counselors, nurses, school psychologists, and more. Thank you for signing the petition and amplifying that call - we are so close to 20,000 signatures!

We are continuing this critical fight to reimagine safe schools that empower young people to learn rather than retraumatize them. We want Philly decision-makers to commit to this vision before our schools physically reopen.

On Aug. 20th, next Thursday, Philadelphia's Board of Education will host an action meeting starting at 4 pm. Our students will testify calling on the District and BOE to introduce a #PoliceFreeSchools resolution and the divestment and redistribution of $31 million from school police officers as follows:

  • $10 million added towards current $21 million budget for counselors
  • $10 million added towards current $34 million budget for nurses
  • $10 million invested in employing and training community members on unarmed, non-law-enforcement personnel trained to improve safety and school climate

Will you join our students and call for #PoliceFreeSchools ahead of the new school year? Sign up to be a #PoliceFreeSchools supporter here. Once you sign up, we will send instructions and messaging materials to help testify and otherwise support our campaign.

Thanks for believing in our vision for schools, it is only possible with your support. Be safe and well!
