Tell the RI Congressional Delegation: Permanent Ceasefire Now!
The Issue
Since the end of the temporary ceasefire in Gaza, we are devastated by the continuation of Israel’s deadly U.S.-backed assault on the Palestinian people. Each member of the Rhode Island Federal Delegation has failed to speak against this genocide funded in large part by U.S. taxpayers, despite the fact that a vast majority of Democratic voters and a majority of American citizens support a ceasefire. A permanent ceasefire is urgently needed to save lives and stop Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza.
We, Rhode Island voters, demand that Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and Representatives Seth Magaziner and Gabe Amo immediately voice their support for a full and lasting ceasefire. Further, with a Senate vote on President Biden’s sweeping military bill expected, we demand that the Rhode Island delegation oppose the proposal of $14 billion in military aid to Israel.
All people of conscience must act with renewed effort to call for a permanent ceasefire and an end to all military aid to Israel. If Senators Reed and Whitehouse were to ignore their constituents and vote for this bill, they would be stating that they care more about weapons companies and benefiting off arms sales than they care about the lives of the thousands of Palestinians who have been murdered by US weapons and many more who will be murdered should the funding pass.
As Rhode Islanders struggle to access housing, health care, and basic services, it is unconscionable for our elected representatives to support sending our tax dollars to pay for a genocidal war on Palestinians. Rhode Island Senators and Representatives must oppose U.S. support for Israel's aggressions and call for a permanent ceasefire in order to represent their constituents.

“Millions of Palestinians are suffering needlessly due to Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza, and yet our government and institutions are failing. Our ‘leaders’ are ignoring the calls from millions of people across the country and across the world as we demand an end to this current genocidal campaign. We must use every lever of power possible to end the violence and we will not stop until there is a permanent ceasefire, divestment from the international war machine, and a free Palestine.“

“In response to the call from Palestinian civil society, historic numbers of people across the U.S. and around the world–including thousands of Rhode Islanders, among them hundreds of Jews–have risen up to demand a full and lasting ceasefire. We are devastated and furious. Only a permanent ceasefire will stop the genocide of Palestinians. In the face of so much bloodshed and horror, it’s never been clearer that there is no military solution to oppression. We cannot bomb our way to peace — safety is found only in our collective liberation. We’re in this for the long haul, until the end of U.S. support for Israeli apartheid once and for all.”

"Millions have spoken out for weeks, including thousands here in Rhode Island to demand a permanent ceasefire. Now, with the full support of the United States, Israel has resumed its genocidal assault on the Palestinian people. The people of the world will not stop fighting until Israel's aggression is stopped and Palestine is free!"

“We at Reclaim RI forcefully condemn the genocide of Palestinians, and call for a permanent ceasefire. In doing so, we stand in solidarity with people across the world, including our friends at the Rhode Island chapter of Jewish Voice for Peace. These local Jewish leaders know well the devastating toll of genocide and ethnic cleansing, and are bravely speaking out to say “Never again – for anyone.” Together, our organizations demand that our congressional delegation join the bloc of congresspeople fighting to end these atrocities. Otherwise – we'll campaign against them, and vote them out.”
