Unfortunately, the update posted earlier by Change.org incorrectly declared victory. The update may have stemmed from recent and somewhat misleading media reports surrounding the opossum drop in North Carolina.

Don't believe everything you read. There will not be a public opossum "drop" this year, but that doesn't mean there won't be a private one, nor does it mean there won't be one next year.

To clarify, the Mayor of Andrews, NC decided earlier this year that they would not host the opossum drop in their town ever again – so this is not new news. This petition is not addressed to Mayor Reid, it is addressed to the North Carolina General Assembly.

Justice for Millie will not be achieved until the North Carolina legislature restores legal protections to opossums year-round by repealing SL 2015-73.
