The New York Mets have partnered with Stop & Shop, a grocery chain that broke its promise on animal welfare.

Stop & Shop, which is owned by Ahold Delhaize, committed nearly a decade ago to going 100% cage-free by 2025. But in late 2024, the company pushed the deadline back seven more years, which means millions of hens will continue to suffer in cramped, filthy cages.

Hens who are confined to filthy and cruel battery cages are denied everything natural and important to them. They are forced to lay eggs in the same cramped, unsanitary space where they defecate, sleep, and eat, and are oftentimes forced to live amongst their dead and decaying cagemates. These sensitive and inquisitive animals are also denied basic natural behaviors, like perching and dust bathing, which is detrimental to their health and well-being.

Now, the New York Mets are teaming up with the company and have named it their official grocery store.
