Tell the Mexican Government to Stop Bludgeoning Animals to Death

Hi. I’m Eugenio Derbez and I need your help.

If you’re like me, you care about animals and you don’t want them to be abused. But what’s happening inside Mexican slaughterhouses will shock and disgust you.

I teamed up with Mercy For Animals after watching some of the most upsetting footage of animal cruelty I’d ever seen. All of it was filmed by their investigators at government-owned-and-operated slaughterhouses across Mexico, often with government inspectors standing idly by.

I watched the video in horror as animals were tied up, shocked for no reason, brutally and repeatedly bludgeoned with sledgehammers, and then stabbed in the back of the head. Their eyes widened in fear and pain. Often, after suffering through all of this, they were still conscious when workers began to dismember them.

This is disgusting and simply unacceptable. In Mexico, the law requires animals to be rendered insensible to pain before being slaughtered, but this is not happening. Slaughterhouses are breaking the law.

As a Mexican citizen and animal advocate, I am outraged. If you help me, I believe we can end this horror.

Please join me and Mercy For Animals in calling on the Federal Government of Mexico to strengthen laws and ensure animals are at least properly stunned and rendered insensible to pain before they are cut open and dismembered—and to prosecute anyone who breaks the law.

This is a common-sense measure that would greatly alleviate the suffering of millions of animals a year in Mexico.

Thank you.

Eugenio Derbez
