By signing this petition, you are asking the Mason City Schools Board of Education to pass a resolution condemning House Bill 616.

Ohio House Bill 616 seeks to ban instruction on gender identity and sexuality for grades K-3 and restrict it for all grades. It also seeks to ban the teaching of anything it considers "divisive or inherently racist concepts." This includes critical race theory, intersectional theory, diversity, equity, and inclusion learning outcomes, and any other concept that the state board of education defines as divisive or inherently racist.

House Bill 616 would limit teachers’ abilities to provide accurate and balanced information about race, gender identity, and sexual orientation. It does not represent the values of the Mason community, especially the MCS big rock ‘Inclusive Excellence’. With the largest high school in Ohio, Mason has influence. Passing a resolution condemning HB 616 would show the Ohio Legislature that schools and communities do not support the bill.
