Dear Commissioners Fithian, Pickrum and Short,

I am writing to express my support of Kent County Public schools.

I am asking you (the officials we elected to oversee the health and prosperity of our county) to demonstrate leadership and advocacy on behalf of our schools, educators, and elected School Board by:

- Prioritizing funding and support for public education in the 2016 Comprehensive Plan for Kent County
- Restoring the school district fund balance, thus giving the School Board discretion to use funds as needed without having to submit requests to you on a case-by-case basis
- Increasing the annual school budget, thus allowing the School Board to proactively improve our schools and providing the resources needed to return basic services that have been recently cut

Until our schools are better funded and until the people we elect to oversee the welfare of our schools are given the freedom they need to make the best decisions for the benefit of our students, our schools have no chance to emerge as the pillar of community strength and economic development they can and should be.

Our schools need your support now. Please do the right thing for today’s students and for the future of our community.
