Dear supporter,
The momentum is building...
I'm thrilled to announce some fantastic new supporters who are helping to make sunscreen more accessible and affordable for all.
The British Skin Foundation—a leading voice in skin health and cancer prevention—has officially backed the Axe the SPF Tax campaign! The organisation is the only UK charity that raises money to fund research into all types of skin diseases, including skin cancer. Their support is a major milestone.
I'm so grateful to the BSF team, not just for their support of my mission, but for their decades of activism in the skin health space. Since its inception in 1996, the charity has supported around 500 research projects and awarded £21,500,000 in funding across all skin diseases. Their backing means so much, and I'm excited for what our collaboration can do for skin cancer prevention in the UK.
Additionally, homegrown British skincare brands OSKIA, Altruist, and Hello Sunday SPF have joined the Axe the SPF Tax campaign.
Both OSKIA and Hello Sunday SPF are female-founded companies with a focus on expert skincare and high quality ingredients. Georgie Cleeve of OSKIA preaches daily SPF practise on her weekly 'Skin School' Instagram Lives, which I recommend for anyone interested in the science of skincare. Amy Ford of Hello Sunday SPF has not only built a sunscreen empire, she covers the cost of VAT on the brand's essential items via its online store... Treasury, take note.
Altruist was co-founded by Dr Andrew Birnie, a skin cancer surgeon with a mission to make sunscreen affordable to everyone. Serendipitously, Dr Andrew specialises in Mohs surgery, which is the procedure I had to remove my cancerous tumour at age 26. I admire anyone who dedicates their career to this specialism, and I'm thrilled to work together on tackling Britain's skin cancer crisis.
The growing #AXEtheSPFtax coalition makes one thing clear: the case for axing SPF tax is not just strong - it's urgent.
🗓 Save the Date: May 1st
With May - AKA Skin Cancer Awareness Month - just around the corner, I'm cooking up something big. Stay tuned...
