Stop Pricing Out the DFW Hockey Community

The Issue

We, the undersigned members of the DFW hockey community, hereby express our concerns and objections to the recent changes implemented by the Dallas Stars and their affiliated facilities. As passionate players, parents, and fans, we believe it is imperative to address the issues that have been adversely affecting our beloved community. We respectfully request that the Dallas Stars and the facilities they own take immediate action to rectify the following matters:

1. Exorbitant Costs: The escalating expenses associated with participating in hockey, particularly regarding ice time, have reached unsustainable levels. Families within the DFW hockey community are burdened with exorbitant costs, making it increasingly difficult for children to engage in this sport or play year-round. We urge the Dallas Stars and their facilities to recognize the financial strain on families and take measures to alleviate the high financial barriers.

2. Inflated Registration Fees: We express our deep concern regarding the recurring price hikes in team registration fees within the SSHL. It is unjust to burden teams with increasing costs, particularly when the facilities have not demonstrated a commitment to investing in improvements to the leagues. We call on the Dallas Stars and their facilities to cease raising registration fees without due consideration for the financial well-being of the community they serve.

3. Game Modifications: We strongly oppose the implementation of a running clock, which will undoubtedly result in reduced ice time for players while simultaneously increasing the cost per game. This modification does not adequately consider the players' experiential return on their investment. We urge the Dallas Stars and their facilities to reconsider this decision and engage with the DFW hockey community to explore alternative solutions that preserve the quality and value of the game.

4. Lack of Community Engagement: We are disappointed by the apparent disregard for the concerns and suggestions put forth by the passionate players within our community. We believe that meaningful improvements can be made to the game, the leagues, and the facilities if the Dallas Stars and their affiliated rinks actively seek and value the input of those directly involved. We implore the Dallas Stars to engage in open dialogue with the community and collaborate on finding mutually beneficial solutions.

By signing this petition, we are not only opposing the recent changes but also conveying our desire to be acknowledged and considered as valuable stakeholders. We urge the Dallas Stars to recognize our contributions as parents, hockey fans, and active members of the DFW community. We believe that by working together, utilizing the wealth of resources available, and striving for a better experience for all members of our DFW hockey family, we can strengthen our community and ensure its long-term growth and sustainability.

We implore the Dallas Stars and their facilities to halt the practice of pricing our friends and teammates out of the locker room. We call on them to prioritize the use of available resources to enhance the game and create an inclusive and enriching experience for everyone involved. Let us come together and preserve the vibrant and tight-knit DFW hockey community for generations to come.

Thank you.
