Teamsters Local 63, together with other unions, works hard at Baker Commodities, operating an essential public service by removing food by-products from the waste stream and recycling them into renewable, usable products.

Baker has been a good community steward for 85 years and their rendering operation has not been the subject of an odor-related Notice of Violation from the AQMD in more than 20 years.

Now, the AQMD has issued an improper order – reliant on a fabricated violation exploited for the sole purpose of shutting down Baker’s Vernon facility, which is powered by more than 100 union jobs. As a result of AQMD’s order, union jobs are at risk and animal waste will be left to rot without proper processing, resulting in widespread nuisance odors and the potential for virus and disease outbreaks across the region.

Stop the AQMD’s improper shutdown from putting our union jobs and the public health and environment at risk.  Tell the AQMD now that we won’t stand by while our communities are plunged into a public health crisis – one that we still have time to prevent!
