Good Morning from Maine!
I'm thrilled to announce that our other senator - Angus King - announced yesterday afternoon that he will not be voting for the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh. You can read more about his statement here: https://www.pressherald.com/2018/09/12/king-says-hell-vote-no-on-kavanaugh-confirmation/
The highlight of the article for me was this quote:
"The senator also took into account “the opinions of thousands of Maine people who have written and called into his office or approached the senator personally.”
Are you listening Susan Collins??
The word around town is that Collins will make an announcement today or tomorrow on her Kavanaugh vote....the next 48 hours may be the final push to let Collins hear our message: we expect her to protect our civil rights by voting NO for the nomination of right-wing extremist (and possible perjurer) Brett Kavanaugh.
A few tools to help:
1. You can call Senator Collins' offices here (and please be polite - our local news stations are reporting on the number of vulgar calls she's been getting. Believe me, I get the frustration, but offensiveness doesn't help the cause!)
Augusta: (207) 622-8414
Bangor: (207) 945-0417
Biddeford: (207) 283-1101
Caribou: (207) 493-7873
Lewiston: (207) 784-6969
Portland: (207) 780-3575
Washington, D.C.: (202) 224-2523 (Dial 0 when the recording starts to be connected to a staffer)
For talking points, go here: https://www.suitupmaine.org/save-scotus-stop-kavanaugh/
2. You can email senior Collins staffer Kate Simson at kate_simson@collins.senate.gov (She once asked us to "flood her inbox on Kavanaugh - happy to oblige!). You can also email her office at https://www.collins.senate.gov/contact
3. If you are a constituent in Maine, North Dakota, Montana, Indiana, Alaska, or West Virginia, you have a senator who is currently "sitting the fence" on this issue. Go to https://stampslicked.org/kavanaugh to send a letter to your senator that will hand-delivered by volunteers. They delivered over 700 letters written by Mainers to Collins' office yesterday and are planning another delivery today. Note: You can only send letters to your own senator. If you don't live in any of the above states, please share with family and friends who do!
4. If you haven't donated yet, the Be A Hero crowdraiser to fund Susan Collins' 2020 opponent is 94% of the way to their goal of 1.3M...matching the funds Collins currently has in her own election coffers! Consider a donation of 20.20...even 2.02. Go to http://www.bit.ly/collinsbeahero
Here's to the final push!
