We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned citizens of San Francisco, coming together to express our apprehension regarding the recent resolution passed by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors calling for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

While we unequivocally support the pursuit of peace and the protection of human rights for all individuals, regardless of nationality or religion, we believe that the recent resolution, as it stands, will contribute to an atmosphere of antisemitism and could be perceived as aligning with individuals or groups who deny egregious human rights violations. 

This resolution dangerously skirts the line of fueling antisemitic sentiments. The lack of a balanced narrative and context in the resolution is not just negligent; it's harmful and incites further hatred and calls for violence against the Jewish community. We have seen similar resolutions in Berkeley and Oakland, where members of the public openly supported and attempted to justify Hamas’s terrorism.

The resolution, perhaps unintentionally, aligns with groups that deny severe human rights abuses and support terror. Supervisor Matt Dorsey’s proposed amendments to condemn Hamas’s weaponization of rape and sexual violence against women were met with members of the public trying to shout him down. As it stands, the resolution denies Hamas’s well-documented violence against women on October 7th, and continued violence against the remaining hostages must be condemned without any hesitation. We must show that members of the public who attended the meeting and heckled Supervisor Dorsey as he presented these amendments do not represent the values of San Francisco. This is unacceptable. We cannot allow our city's policies to be interpreted as supporting violence against women and misogynistic views.

As our Mayor, we urge you to take a firm stand and veto this resolution. San Francisco must not be a platform for one-sided narratives that support extremism or hate of any kind.
