Indiana supports leaders who understand this simple truth: Instead of spending almost a billion dollars a day on foreign oil, we should produce more clean, renewable fuel here at home.  

Under the commonsense, bipartisan Renewable Fuel Standard, America has tripled production of renewable fuel in the last ten years. That has helped drive oil imports down to the lowest level in 20 years, reduced harmful pollution that fouls the air and causes climate change, and created hundreds of thousands of jobs.

In fact, the renewable fuel industry supports more than 852,000 jobs across the country. More than 25,000 of those jobs are in Indiana alone. These are good, homegrown jobs that can’t be outsourced.

Since renewable fuels typically cost about 60-80 cents per gallon less than gasoline, the Renewable Fuel Standard saves us money every time we fill up. Not only that, but renewable fuel has a higher-octane level than gasoline -- delivering better engine performance. 

Finally, the Renewable Fuel Standard is driving investments into “game changing” advanced biofuels like cellulosic ethanol -- which can reduce carbon dioxide pollution by at least 88% compared to regular gasoline. Because of the Renewable Fuel Standard, the first wave of cellulosic ethanol plants have come online, sowing the seeds for an entire new American industry that could create vast new economic opportunities and free us from our dependence on foreign oil.
