Tell Representative Ed Whitfield: Keep Our Gas Prices Low!

The Issue

Only in Washington would a campaign be underway to help big corporations on the backs of ordinary Americans.  That’s precisely what’s happening as oil companies and their allies in Congress are pushing for repeal of our 40-year-old energy independence law - so they can export precious American crude oil.

Exporting U.S. crude oil would raise fuel prices for ordinary Americans.  Studies show that gasoline prices are lower than they otherwise would be, because our energy independence law keeps our crude oil here at home.

Exporting our oil would undermine America’s energy independence.  For every barrel of U.S. oil exported to places like China, we would have to import a barrel from places like the Middle East and rogue countries.  We are still importing over 7 million barrels a day from foreign sources - now is not the time to export such a critical resource.

After years of record-high gasoline prices, Americans are finally starting to see lower prices at the pump – even down to $2.70 in Kentucky in time for summer.  According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the average American household this year is poised to save $700 on fuel over last year.  That’s real money to real Americans – like a huge across-the-board tax cut!

Exporting American oil means more profits for oil companies but higher prices for all Americans.  That’s bad for our economy and bad for American consumers.  Tell Representative Ed Whitfield to keep U.S. crude oil in America!
