Letter to
Pope Francis and The Catholic Church
Louis Romano and the Rev. Robert Hoatson are on a mission! "We are calling on you Pope Francis to, “say something about the clergy sexual abuse. The Catholic Church must ‘act decisively!’”
“It’s time,” says Louis Romano, author of the controversial new thriller, Intercession, “for the Catholic Church to ‘act decisively’ to root out sexual abuse of children by priests and ensure the perpetrators are punished.”
Romano and the Rev. Robert Hoatson, founder of Road to Recovery, both have experienced the clergy sexual abuse in their own lives. Romano’s son was abused by his parish priest in 1996, and Hoatson was abused as a child. Together the two men have set out to open a candid dialogue about the scandal that “the Church still doesn’t want to talk about!”

Road to Recovery -- Romano is donating a portion of the proceeds from his new book to Road to Recovery, founded by Rev. Robert Hoatson. Road to Recovery is the only nonprofit organization in the United States that offers compassionate counseling and referral services to survivors of clergy sexual abuse, and assists survivors with their emotional, psychological, financial, and spiritual needs as they attempt to recover from the effects of clergy sexual abuse.
Intercession – Romano’s controversial new thriller published this month is raising eyebrows about how justice is served. Here is what motivated this outspoken, Brooklyn raised Catholic, to write such a book.
Romano’s and Hoatson’s petition to Pope Francis.
What they have to say about: the firestorm that erupted earlier this month in New Jersey, when Newark Archbishop John Myers was called on to resign for his role in covering for pedophiles, and Cardinal Roger Mahony (leader of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles) was taking part in the choosing of a new Pope, after being accused of helping a confessed pedophile priest evade law enforcement by sending him out of state to a church-run treatment center and then placing him back in the Los Angeles ministry.
“To be honest with you, I don’t think any of us have really come to understand the Catholic Church’s stand on handling the priest sex abuse scandal,” said Romano. “Just recently, retired Los Angeles Cardinal Roger Mahony still said it wasn’t his fault after being confronted by angry
people who were upset with his role in the cover-up of child rapists. Where does it end?”
Hoatson and Romano are calling on others to reach out and tell their stories.
