I'm starting this petition to urge PetSmart and other pet retailers to improve the size and quality of their tanks for betta fish sold in their store. Currently, these fish are kept in very small cups with no room to move, poor water conditions, and lack of filtration. Additionally, many of these fish are dead on the shelves or visibly suffering.

PetSmart's own guildlines on their website recommend that betta fish be kept in tanks with at least 3 gallons (11 litres) of water, with a filter and heater, and be kept in water with a temperature of 77-82°F (23-27°C). This petition is asking that PetSmart follow their own guidelines, or at the very least, increase the size of the containers they are kept in.
