***VICTORY UPDATE (4/8/11): PETA has removed all reference to NIAW from their Win a Vasectomy campaign as of 8pm on 4/8/11. This is a tremendous victory for the infertility community. Thank you to all who signed and shared this petition. Thank you PETA, for hearing the voice of the infertility community. Check out the Victory Vlog here: http://www.vimeo.com/22154346.
PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) launched a publicity campaign/contest on March 31, 2011 offering a free vasectomy to a man who spays or neuters his pet during the month of April "in honor of" National Infertility Awareness Week. Instead of honoring this community, PETA has decided that it's acceptable to ridicule, devalue, and trivialize the infertility patient community experience in the name of promoting responsible pet-ownership.
The "Win a Vasectomy" campaign is not only a mockery of everything that National Infertility Awareness Week seeks to promote, but is a cruel execution of a promotional concept at the expense of millions of patients for whom infertility is no laughing matter.
Tell PETA President Ingrid Newkirk that infertility is not a joke and demand an apology for and immediate removal of the link between their campaign and National Infertility Awareness Week.
**UPDATE, 4/7/11: PETA has changed "in honor of" to "during" on their campaign website. While this may feel like a small victory, it fails to address either of our demands and still presents the same controversy as stated above. Please continue to share this petition with others to urge PETA to remove ALL links to National Infertility Awareness Week and to formally apologize for their actions to the infertility community.

We, the undersigned, demand the immediate removal of the link between PETA's "Win a Vasectomy" campaign and National Infertility Awareness Week.
While your attempt at a clever marketing campaign raises awareness about the importance of spaying and neutering pets, this campaign does so at the expense of the vast 7.3 million strong infertility patient community. Your campaign undermines the work of thousands of volunteers and participants who strive to make National Infertility Awareness Week a success. This campaign dilutes the strength and validity of this federally recognized health observance. Your campaign has offended and disgusted us by trivializing our very real, very painful emotional and physical experiences with infertility. Additionally, your staff's responses telling our community to focus instead on adoption, as well as apologizing for our response as opposed to PETA's actions, is unacceptable and side-steps the greater issue of belittling a medical patient community for organizational gain.
We demand a formal apology for PETA's campaign to "honor" National Infertility Awareness Week with your "Win a Vasectomy" campaign and seek the immediate removal of PETA's link between these two campaigns.
