Dear Neighbors,
This week is a turning point for Park City Old Town—and for whether the rule of law applies equally in our city.
After years of delays, the proposed Park City Old Town mansion plans by billionaire Matthew Prince is finally scheduled to be heard by an impartial judge later this month.
Instead of allowing that long-overdue court hearing to proceed, Prince is now pushing the City to approve a “consent agreement” that would bypass the court entirely and give him everything he wants behind closed doors.
This is not a routine zoning matter. It is an unprecedented attempt to end-run the legal process—one that could permanently weaken historic protections and set a dangerous precedent for every resident who follows the rules.
Two critical meetings are happening this week:
• Wednesday 01.14.2026 Planning Commission Meeting
• Thursday 01.15.2026 City Council Meeting
If the City agrees to this shortcut, it sends a clear message: if you are wealthy enough, you don’t have to play by the same rules as everyone else.
City officials need to hear—loudly and clearly—that residents are paying attention and expect fairness, transparency, and respect for due process.
Please attend these meetings if you can (in person or via Zoom)

Please submit a public comment prior to the meetings to let the City leaders know this case must go before a judge as planned, Third District Court, Judge Mrazik January 29.
Historic protections only matter if we defend them.
The legal process only works if we insist it be followed.
Now is the moment to speak up. Please make your voice heard—and encourage others to do the same.
You are welcome to copy and send this letter to the city.
Dear Council Member,
At the first meeting of this new Council, you are being asked to vote on a matter that will define the character of Park City.
Do we enforce the rule of law, our historic guidelines, and our land management code equally on all citizens?
Will we be bullied into allowing a billionaire’s mansion on the side of Treasure Hill which the community strongly opposes?
Do not overturn the decision of your own municipal body, the Board of Adjustment, which denied approval of the project.
After 2 years, this dispute is finally scheduled to be heard by the 3rd District Court in two weeks.
Let it go to court!
Sincerely,
A Concerned Citizen
