The Issue

Ontario has been experiencing province wide cuts in staff and healthcare programs related to the budget freeze in hospital funding. The Ontario Nurses'  Association tells us for every extra patient added to the average workload of a registered nurse, the risk of patient complications and even death increases by seven percent. In a recent interview, Dr. Ann Tourangeau of the University of Toronto described research which identified a direct correlation between a high percentage of RN staff in hospitals and lower mortality rates for our patients. As a result of a freeze in hospital funding it's been years since they have received any budget increase.  Unfortunately, despite hospitals being government funded, their management is left to their individual boards of directors and executive officers who must implement cost containment strategies.  With the inevitable cost of inflation, too often this results in cutting of services, closure of programs and decreases in much needed frontline staff.   Our communities deserve high quality health care.  Please join us in asking our MPPs to stop the cuts and put our tax dollars to work for the health of ALL our communities.
