Tell NOTL Town Council You're Serious About Implementing Climate Change Goals

The Issue

To The Niagara-on-the-Lake Town Council

We're Seniors for Climate in Niagara acting for a better world, free from destruction caused by burning fossil fuels.

It’s time to end the use of fossil fuels. Good and affordable solutions exist. Building green. Conserving energy. Switching to renewables. Helping the vulnerable adapt. But the solutions are taking too long.

Time is running out. Seniors are ACTING NOW, with our vote, our spending power, and our advocacy. As part of a broad-based and deep-rooted movement, we’re working to be sure our kids and our grandkids inherit a better world.

Therefore, We ask The Niagara-on-the-Lake Town Council to…

1.    Prioritize the Official Plan’s targets for “Environment”, listed under Enrich Community Assets, Environment & Infrastructure which, as of July 2024, are marked as “Not Started”.

2.    Initiate the Climate Change Adaption Plan Implementation Schedule as approved by Council in March 2022.

3.    Form an internal employee Green Team under the direction of the Climate Change Coordinator, currently being recruited, to align the implementation schedule within each department.

4.    Prioritize the development of a Storm Water Management Plan as an emergency measure to reduce flooding, and develop a stand-alone NOTL floodplain map.

5.    Mitigate extreme climate events.

6.    Provide an EV shuttle service from the new commuter carpool lot (at Glendale/QEW) to Old Town on weekends in order to alleviate air pollution from gas powered vehicles, and parking congestion downtown, due to 3.5 million visitors to NOTL each year.

7.    Invest in more EV charging stations downtown.
