Don't Cut Local F Train Service in Brooklyn!

The Issue

OCT 21, 2016 UPDATE — Help us show the MTA that its proposed cuts to local F Train service in Brooklyn would harm hundreds of thousands of real people by sharing your testimony. Write a blurb about how the cuts would affect you and send it in to us with a photo of yourself. We are creating a section on DontCutLocalF.com where we will be sharing these personal stories and we may also include them in our emailed updates. Please email DontCutLocalF@gmail.com or contact us through our site.

The MTA is threatening to cut local F Train service at Fort Hamilton Pkwy, 15 St-Prospect Park, 4 Ave-9 St, Smith-9 St, Carroll St, and Bergen St stations in Brooklyn, starting in 2017. The proposed cuts will reduce peak service by 50%. This will have serious and negative ramifications across several neighborhoods; from dangerous overcrowding at Bergen and Carroll Streets—two of the busiest Brooklyn stops on the F line—to reducing subway access for the already under-served residents in Red Hook (home to the 2nd largest public housing development in NYC) and the Columbia Waterfront to leaving our infrastructure unprepared for large-scale development such as what is planned for Gowanus. The MTA claims the cuts are needed to facilitate the return of the F Express. But the MTA’s own report shows that the local F Train cuts hurt more people than the express will help. If the MTA wants to add the F Express, that is great, but it should not do so by stranding residents and businesses via cuts to local service.

Thank you for signing this petition and organizing to share your concerns. I strongly oppose the MTA’s proposal to cut local F train service. It’s crucial that the MTA engage with the thousands of New Yorkers who have signed this petition and firmly commit to maintaining full service on the entire F line. Working together, we can send a strong message to the MTA and make our community’s voice heard on this important issue. Thank you again for mobilizing on this issue and making your voice heard.
