Is your library also discarding books instead of donating them?

Did you know that your local library may also be discarding books? It seems like it is a pretty common practice for libraries to recycle books they don't need instead of donating them to give the books a new life. I encourage all of you to check the recycle bins of your local public library. Maybe you'll even be able to rescue a few books from the recycle bins of doom! The photo above is from a news story that was published earlier this year. In Brevard County, Florida, dozens of books were found in a dumpster outside a library. The reaction of one of the people to whom Spectrum News showed the books in a dumpster perfectly sums up my (and likely your) feelings about books in good condition being discarded: "I don’t understand that. I mean, as long as they are readable and somebody can enjoy them, keep passing them down until they are all ragged and throw them away." Let's see if we can get a news story published about our libraries discarding books too! Keep the momentum going!
