COVID-19 was an unprecedented event for public health departments across the country.  

Chicago's response to the pandemic was well-reasoned, and based on the ever-changing available science. At the helm was a dedicated internal medicine physician and public health champion. Experienced in other infectious disease outbreaks, Dr. Arwady was trained as a pediatrician which explains her commitment to improving the health of families and communities in order ensure children are raised in safe and healthy environments. 

Chicago Mayor-elect Brandon Johnson has expressed that one of his first acts as mayor would be to fire Dr. Arwady. He has since implied that he is open to reconsidering her dismissal. 

Chicago needs Dr. Arwady at the helm of the third largest metropolitan health department in country.  Mayor-elect needs Dr. Arwady to lead the city through the continuing public health challenges ahead.  To dismiss her would be foolish and short sighted.
