Lee County,
We did a GREAT job this weekend! Our commissioners are headed back to work today to read our first 21 petitions! Thank you to everyone whose joined with us and for sharing this effort with your friends and family! Together we will make Lee County start taking public transportation seriously and demand a true comprehensive 10-Year Plan from LeeTran!
Yesterday our effort officially became non-partisan as we picked up Bi-Partisan support for our efforts! We received a strong statement of support from Kyle Anderson who is Larry Kikers challenger in Lee County district 3 right now in the AUGUST primary! "Mr. Declet, thank you for your great involvement in this important issue. I have reviewed both the LeeTran 10 year plan and your objections. It is clear that Lehigh is grossly underserved now and will be in the future under this plan. Mobility has been one of my top 3 issues in my campaign along with water quality and growth management. What I have been saying is that within 20 years Lee County will have 1 million permanent residents. This growth will come primarily in Lehigh and Cape Coral. Just as we have fallen behind in road construction, we are behind in transit. We must focus on improving frequency of service and adding the needed Lehigh routes as demand clearly exists. Focus on funding sources is 1st priority. Revenues from ridership will follow but not until the system is more attractive to users. Park and ride facilities are used in many other communities and are necessary to make the system work. Transit will work for Lehigh if we work it. I will bring the focus to this issue. We need a vision for our future that includes all mobility strategies. Now is the time to set that vision into motion for our future quality of life."

In addition to our 2nd county commissioners candidate we also received support from our first candidate for Lehigh Acres Fire & Rescue Board! The Lehigh Acres fire board is the only "city" office in Lehigh and we welcome the support of Tyler Woodby http://facebook.com/1Tyler-Woodby-For-Lehigh-Acres-Fire-Contoland-Rescue-District
What's Next!
TONIGHT at 7pm we will be trying to win over the support of Lee Counties Haitian community at The Haitian-American Democratic Club of Lee County (HADC) Membership Meeting at the Quality Life Center of SW Florida, 3210 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, Fort Myers, Florida 33916. We do not have a speaking roll nor do they have any candidates speaking. However we will have plenty of opportunity to interact with thier members and pass out our petition cards!
Wednesday we will be doing our first public petition drive at the LeeTran Bus Stops inside the Bell Tower from 2-6pm. This petition drive is happening right after a major multiple employer job fair at the Crown Plaza and we can anticipate increased public transit ridership in the area as a result. It is crucial for our efforts to make sure we are doing what LeeTran isn't engaging thier own ridership in the issue! The Bell Tower is one of LeeTrans 4 biggest transfer locations. It is the ONLY connection point to SWFL International Airport, it serves direct routes to Cape Coral and the Fort Myers Beach Park-N-Ride and is a major stop along the US41 Route 140 which services over 1 Million riders a year!
