Tell Howell Public Schools We Want Them To Take Action About The Mental Health Survey

The Issue

Last month the Howell Public Schools admin released a mental health survey to the student body. A student managed to edit this survey and display a religious verse calling homosexual people abominations and implying they should die or be killed.

In response to this Howell Highschool released a statement saying the student was punished accordingly for writing a “Inappropriate” message on the survey.

Our Principal is refusing to make a statement saying that Howell Highschool does not condone the bullying or mistreatment of its students or homophobic behavior on the grounds that it would be too “political”.

By refusing to respond to this incident, Howell Public Schools is neglecting and building distrust between its LGBT students and staff. It also tells the students and staff who think that kind of behavior is okay, that they can get away with it.

This is all without acknowledging that an entire school body got the message that LGBT students don't deserve to live could further a students hatred of themselves and reaffirm a dangerous message they may already be receiving from themselves or their environment. Our current attempted suicide rate for LGBT youth is 14%, with 45% having seriously considered suicide.

By signing this petition you are telling the Howell Public Schools School Board that you do not agree with the decision to not address this issue. You are letting them know they have failed our community.
