As a lifelong New Yorker, I was already deeply dissatisfied with Mayor Eric Adams. But the revelation of his apparent quid pro quo with the Trump DOJ made it clear: waiting until the June primary is not an option.

Adams has treated New Yorkers as bargaining chips to evade accountability for bribery and fraud allegations. He faces five criminal charges, including conspiracy to commit wire fraud, federal program bribery, and unlawfully soliciting foreign campaign contributions. He is accused of seeking donations from Turkish sources for his 2021 campaign, while his closest allies have been arrested or remain under investigation—on the taxpayers’ dime.

Now, with efforts to dismiss his federal charges, the corrupt deal between Adams and Trump’s administration is undeniable. He has never acted in New Yorkers’ best interests, and he won’t start now. While voters can try to remove him in a few months, the urgency of this moment demands immediate action. Governor Hochul must act now—remove Adams and protect New Yorkers, our city, and our sanctuary status.
