Don Jones and the Chesapeake Climate Action Network
Oct 18, 2017
I wanted to give you an urgent news update. Last Friday night, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued approval for both the Atlantic Coast and Mountain Valley Pipelines. A horrible, cowardly move. But we knew it would happen eventually, and that the power to stop these pipelines would be ultimately held by state agencies.
On that front, there is much to be hopeful for. In recent weeks, both North Carolina and West Virginia announced significant setbacks in the permitting process of these pipelines. (Read more about that here: http://bit.ly/2grZSfd).
Now we will continue to turn up the pressure on the Virginia state agency. Governor McAuliffe’s Department of Environmental Quality has the authority to reject these pipelines, and reject them it must.
Tell the agency it's time to stop these pipelines once and for all. Call the DEQ at 804-786-2211, or click here for a sample phone script: http://bit.ly/pipeline-crunchtime
Stay tuned for an important announcement about our next BIG action. In the meantime, pick up the phone and give the DEQ a call today.
