Don Jones and the Chesapeake Climate Action Network

Friends, this week was incredibly moving. Hundreds of Virginians from all across the state descended on each the seven offices of the Department of Environmental Quality. If you missed it, check out an article from the Richmond Times-Dispatch here: http://www.richmond.com/news/nineteen-protesters-issues-summonses-after-anti-pipeline-demonstration-outside-virginia/article_335cef3b-cb5a-5cb3-ba7f-7ddbddeeff97.html
During Thursday's event in Richmond, 19 pipeline protesters blocked the entrance to the DEQ office hand-in-hand. They intended to stay as long as it took until Governor McAuliffe got the message. Together, they held the doors down for over an hour before they were peacefully arrested.
I was in Roanoke, protesting alongside about 50 others, calling on McAuliffe and the DEQ to protect our water and reject the Atlantic Coast and Mountain Valley pipelines.
We all extend our thanks and support to the pipeline protesters in Richmond, who put their bodies on the line for the rest of us; to the hundreds of others who came out in force to protest in cities across the state; and to everyone else who tweeted, posted to Facebook, and shared our story.
Our momentum is building. Neighboring states are stepping back on their water permits. I'll provide a fuller update on that front next week. Rest assured, our moment to stop these pipelines has never been closer.
Please keep spreading the word, and thanks for all that you do.
