On May 20, 2017, a local chiropractor would like to host an event that features a panel of some of the most controversial figures in public health at Stowe High School. These figures' incendiary rhetoric and hostile, anti-science views pose a threat to public safety and public health. This event has no place in our school.

May 2017 UPDATE: Andrew Wakefield, a headlining speaker at the Hope and Healing event, is credited with causing the current measles outbreak in Minnesota. This underscores the fact that his presence in Stowe puts public health at risk and poses a significant threat to our town's well-being. Read more here: http://wapo.st/2qruCQJ

The following people do not deserve to use our public space for their for-profit rally:

Del Bigtree: Producer of anti-vaccine documentary Vaxxed. Bigtree is on tape encouraging followers to use gun violence to further their cause. See video here. He has also used disparaging language to characterize autistic people.

Andrew Wakefield: Wakefield is the disgraced former doctor from the UK who is responsible for the fraudulent study connecting the MMR vaccine to autism. Britain's General Medical Council revoked his medical license for "serious misconduct" including performing invasive medical experiments on children. His fervent followers have threatened the lives of pro-vaccine speakers and their families.

Sherri Tenpenny: Another controversial crusader who had to cancel her tour in Australia due to a bomb threat from her own supporter and additional threats of violence.

Superintendent Tracy Wrend asked the organizer to move the event. The school system does not want to be associated with the event or its speakers. But they refused. Stowe Police Chief Hull discussed public safety concerns about the event with the organizers, but again they refused to reconsider.

The undersigned believe that Stowe High School is not an appropriate venue for speakers who advocate violence and intimidation. We ask the organizers to move their event or remove the listed speakers from the panel, for the sake of the health and safety of our community, and the greater the community of Vermont.
