"She was ordered to maintain strict bed rest to save her baby..."

That was the doctor’s explicit plea. But inside an ICE detention facility, a doctor’s order is just another piece of paper — and Laura, a 21-year-old, six months into her high-risk pregnancy, is running out of time.

Laura faces this horrifying reality while detained with her 2-year-old son. After surviving a stray bullet that injured them both in 2025, Laura sought protection from the U.S. government. Instead, ICE locked them up in Dilley, TX, where they’ve been for five weeks with no end in sight.

She’s not the only person this is happening to. ICE has rules that say pregnant women should be released from detention. But inside the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, where Laura is being held, they are ignoring their own rules. 

ICE is keeping pregnant women in detention where they are not getting the medical care they need.

We cannot deny what we see with our own eyes: ICE cannot and will not provide the fundamental care families need. No one should be forced to endure a high-risk pregnancy behind prison walls, and there’s no way to humanely detain children and families. We must demand an end to the cruelty of detention. Now.
