THE DESTRUCTION OF CPGC IS NOT A "DONE DEAL."
SPEAK UP!

The city seems to be spreading the rumor that the destruction of historic City Park Golf Course is a "done deal". FAR FROM IT.
The law suit to save historic CPGC is alive and well and making its way to it's day in court on August 21, 2017.

CPGC is a designated park on the National Register of Historic Places AND an Audubon refuge for the 165 species of birds that depend on CPGC for crucial habitat. The city is trying to dismiss the fact that making CPGC a part of a destructive, toxic storm water run off DRAIN is NOT a park use.
If we are going to make our parks into industrial utilities we need a vote of the people as called for in the Denver City Charter.

We stand in solidarity with the neighborhoods of Cole, Globeville , Swansea and Elyria. The city wants to dig up dirt in a Superfund Site to install HIGHWAY I 70 drains in these neighborhoods, too. We believe that they have not adequately informed the residents of the health and safety risks. The drains would probably mean rising, toxic ground water, flooding and increased exposure to lead , arsenic, asbestos and many other toxic substances for these residents. These neighborhoods are located in the MOST TOXIC zip code in the USA. Think of it. When the wind blows will you be breathing the toxins, too?

Dear Mr. Salazar,
Please let Mayor Hancock know that we value our irreplaceable public open spaces like City Park Golf Course and all neighborhoods, including low income, minority neighborhoods like Cole, Globeville, Swansea and Elyria.
These elements of our city are threatened by the installation of a 1964-style industrial drainage system, Platte to Park Hill (P2PH). The reasons for this drain are clear: To keep the controversial Highway I 70 expansion from flooding and to save developers around the Western Stock Show ( Olympic Village?) much of the cost of doing their own water mitigation.
P2PH would subject all Denver residents to pollution from toxic air, water and soil if the city is allowed to dig up dirt in the Superfund Sites to install this 1964-style drain in Cole and in Globeville.
Denver needs progressive planning and solutions based on sound science to meet the immense challenges that lie ahead as climate change takes ahold.
1964-style transportation "solutions" like the expansion of Highway I 70 and the installation of an old fashioned rain drain, flies in the face of science and modern urban planning. These projects are not just a waste of money but could sabotage our ability to survive the challenges that lie ahead of us.
Please asks the Mayor to consider our request.
Warmest regards,

ANOTHER I Minute ACTION ITEM: We have is on good authority that Denver Department of Parks and Recreation Director, Happy Haynes, is rooting for a big new events center in CPGC after they tear down the beloved Club House at 26th and York. She hope to have it up on the hill, conveniently located across from the Denver Zoo with parking for an additional 190 cars. NOt only that but she wants the entrance to the glitzy event center on the all ready congested 23rd Ave with a TURN LANE carved out of our park land AND a stop light. TRAFFIC?? Shades of the Botanic "Gardens"?
You could e mail Ms. Haynes and let her know what you think about her plan. happy.haynes@denvergov.org

WARM WEATHER IS COMING and so are our demonstrations at CPGC. Break out your picket signs, horns and bells. We will join with residents from all of our neighborhoods to let the city hear, loud and clear that we will not stand for them ripping up our historic parks and open land and polluting our neighborhoods. STAY TUNED.
